I am Aleksandra Tanasic and I was born in Prijedor, Bosnia. My family and I came to America as refugees during the Bosnian war in the 1990s. When my parents came to the United States, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. A new life can be scary at first and even more so with two children they had to take care of. My parents showed me to be resilient and a problem solver.
I became passionate about computers when I realized how many opportunities for self-growth and different career opportunities there were. I found out about Codefy from a friend and got accepted into the program through a nonprofit, Chicanos Por La Causa. My goals and aspirations are always growing, and I am so thankful I got this opportunity.
At first when I started, it was a bumpy road with lots of ups and downs, but these bumps in the road have been the best learning experience for me. I am learning to push through and find that having patience and understanding will help me get to where I want to be and that is the key to success.
Some of my goals are to finish a degree in software engineering and work in a field that makes a difference for the betterment of our community.
