Aleksandra Tanasic
I am Aleksandra Tanasic and I was born in Prijedor, Bosnia. My family and I came to America as refugees during the Bosnian war in the 1990s. When my parents arrived in the United States, they didn’t know what to expect. A new life can be scary at first and even more so with the two children they had to take care of. My parents’ courage in the face of these challenges showed me how to be resilient and a problem solver.
I became passionate about computers when I realized how many opportunities for self-growth and different career possibilities there were. I found out about Codefy from a friend and got accepted into the program through a nonprofit, Chicanos Por La Causa. My goals and aspirations are always growing, and I am so thankful for this opportunity.
When I first started, it was a bumpy road with lots of ups and downs, but these bumps in the road have been the best learning experience for me. I am learning to push through and have found that having patience and understanding is the key to success. Some of my goals are to finish a degree in software engineering and work in a field that makes a difference for the betterment of our community.
