Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the 22 Native Nations of Arizona, to whom these lands have belonged to for centuries.

We respectfully acknowledge that Codefy is located in the traditional homelands of the Akimel O’odham and Piipaash people of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. The O’odham people are descendants of the Hohokam, who farmed the Salt River Valley using elaborate canal irrigation techniques that are still used today.

The territory of the O’odham and Piipaash residing along the Salt River was originally recognized by the U.S government in 1879. A subsequent executive order reduced the Salt River portion of the reserve from approximately 680,000 acres to just 46,627 acres, and separated the Salt River O’odham-Piipaash from their relatives living along the Gila River.

We acknowledge that the land we live and work on is Native land.

We acknowledge the genocide, theft and systemic injustices against the Indigenous people. We celebrate the resilience and the contributions of the Indigenous people, and respect their sovereignty and right to self-determination.

We seek to be allies and to join hands in friendship and solidarity with our Native communities and students.
