Breyonna Hinton
Hello, my name is Breyonna Hinton, I am a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. I was born and raised in Arizona, and for most of my life, I have lived in Phoenix. I graduated from Central High School in 2019, graduating in the top 20% of my class. Growing up, I learned of the struggles that Native Americans go through on and off the reservation, from the examples of my own family. They never had a choice for STEM, since it wasn’t fully available to them at the time. I saw that change for me when I was in middle school and the school made a robotics club for the first time. Being in the club allowed me to see into the world of STEM. In high school, I was able to take classes in Game Design and learn about computers and coding. I grew excited to be a programmer one day, to make my own game, or even help make a website and app. In the class, we had several projects; I made a game from Scratch that my whole class could play. My team made an app that was a virtual map of the school, to help incoming students, since the school was rather big with several buildings. From this experience I had a basic understanding of coding and technology, and with Codefy, I believe that I can continue to create more projects to help people. I want to be one of the first people in my family with a career in the technology field and be an example to the younger generation of Native Americans, someone that I never had growing up.
