Eli Davis
Hello, my name is Eli Davis. I am a 19-year-old Native American from the Dine (Navajo) tribe. I grew up on the reservation before moving to Phoenix during my sophomore year, and I attended Cesar Chavez High School. Growing up in a rural town on the reservation, we did not have resources like the urban schools. Resources were limited, but my older sister furthered her education and she introduced me to coding and the possibilities with Raspberry Pi. Even though I had additional resources after moving to Phoenix, I still struggled with the transition, and then COVID-19 happened, which caused some setbacks in my life. Throughout COVID, I strived to put myself out there to meet new people and experience new things. In my senior year, I joined my school's Native American Youth Council. I I made many friends, and I was elected as the male Co-President. Over my senior year, I learned to take leadership, guide others, and organize events along with the members and advisors. After graduating high school, I worked for a masonry company for over a year. While working here, I have had the chance to learn how to work with machinery and co-workers and truly understand the value of hard work. The ideal goal for myself has been to help my tribal government someday and to learn more about the different programming languages that I will use to hopefully make an impact.
